Living with a Roommate
Roommates
Sharing a room with another student
can be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable aspects
of living on campus. Students are asked to complete
a "Roommate Agreement" when they first move
in to help facilitate discussion on how "best" to
live together. Recognize that adjusting to a roommate
takes a great deal of compromise and negotiation from
both of you. The key to making your roommate relationship
work is to discuss each other's likes and dislikes
and to come to some agreements. Remember that you are
your roommate's roommate.
The Roommate Agreement contains some typical living arrangement questions to help facilitate schedules, habits, and other guidelines between roommmates. Please be prepared to discuss the following items with your roommate:
1. Cleaning the room: Which Area? How Frequently?
2. Study Time: When? Noise Tolerance? Visitors in the Room?
3. Use of Possessions: What can be shared? Which items are not to be used by anyone but you? What about Food?
4. Phone Usage: Messages? Time Tables?
5. Communications: How do we agree to communicate to each other when there is a problem?
6. Guests and Visitation: How Often? How Many? Advance Warning? What time do they have to leave?
7. Sleeping Arrangements: Light or Heavy Sleeper? Early or Late Nights? Early or Late Riser?
8. Security: For your safety, and the safety of your possessions, please keep your room door locked at all times (including when you are sleeping)
9. Pet Peeves
