Sierra Hall has been completely renovated and features four different living options. The hall is single-sex by room and each has its own bathroom and shower!. It currently is the only residence hall to feature single rooms with private bathrooms. Students who have lived in the halls for at least one year, who are 20 years of age or older, or are of sophomore status are eligible to live here.
Resident Director for Sierra Hall
My name is Matt Smith, and I'm the Graduate Resident Director for Sierra Hall. I was born and raised in metro Detroit, MI. I graduated from Hampton University (an HBCU in Hampton, VA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Teaching. I'm currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration, and I also serve as the Vice President for External Affairs with the Graduate Student Association (GSA). I enjoy spending time with my wife Jeannette and our daughter Cassidy, reading, writing, playing the clarinet and sax, singing with my fraternity (Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia) CrossFit, and mountain biking.
My goals for Sierra Hall include achieving the highest GPA among all of the residence halls, supporting our upperclassmen residents with academic and career oriented programming, and establishing great traditions for our fledgling community. The Community Assistant staff and I welcome your suggestions and feedback as we build our programs and community together.
Know that our job is to help you succeed both as a student and an individual. Please feel free to stop by with any questions or issues you may be facing, or if you just want to chat. We're excited to welcome you to your new home away from home: the Sierra Hall Community.
Take care,
Matt Smith
